What do clients say about Julian?

"makes a boring subject interesting and fun"

"he always makes time to listen to the problems before providing sensible and sound advice."

Experience

Having graduated in psychology before embarking on a career in law, Julian considers workplace problems from an alternative perspective. He is praised for his down to earth attitude, commercialism and approachability. He is able to explain difficult legal problems in straightforward language.

Julian qualified in March 1999 after completing his training contract at the City law firm, Speechly Bircham. During his training he was seconded for 6 months to the Mary Ward Legal Centre where he advocated on behalf of clients in relation to unfair dismissal and discrimination claims. He also gained invaluable insight into the common problems arising in the workplace. Julian joined Davenport Lyons on qualification and during his time there, developed a very strong reputation.

Julian has been involved in a number of high profile cases including that of a reservist who was called up to serve during the Kosovo campaign. The case was the first of its kind to be heard by a Reinstatement Committee in over 50 years. The case received considerable media interest and was reported extensively in the national press and on national radio. Julian has since advised again on this subject following the recent Gulf conflict and spoken on the subject on national radio. Julian was also involved in a High Court case concerning the extent of a director’s fiduciary duties in exploiting maturing business interests in the absence of express restrictive covenants and confidentiality provisions. The case of CMS Dolphin Limited -v- Simonet is regularly referred to in leading employment law textbooks.

Julian is also an established speaker and trainer. He has run many training workshops and seminars on all areas of employment law both to clients and to external organisations. He is praised for his ability to communicate complex issues to non lawyers in a way that is easy to understand, in an engaging, entertaining and interesting style.
